A few years ago we had a car – our very first vehicle- and my husband had decided to put the words “what if” on the top of the front windscreen of the car.  We would meet so many people who would ask us “why what if?”… and we would say whatever you want to put after it is up to you.

To this day I still remember the words on that car.  And so often on a daily basis we ask ourselves that question sometimes without even realizing it.  What if I had taken the bus? what if I had made breakfast? what if I had combed my hair differently? what if I had worn a different suit?  . . . And the list goes on and on.

Life is full of what ifs.  One of the biggest what ifs I ask myself is “what if I had taken a few different decisions in life?”  There are times I really wonder what it would be like today if I had made a totally different decision two months ago, two years ago, twenty years ago.  But then I come back to the now and wonder if I had done that back then does that mean I would lose something I have and love today?  And that what if brings us to one of the ultimate what if ever . . .

What if we could go back in time?  Would we change anything?

I sometimes wonder if I would go back, then I think “no I won’t”.  Whatever decisions I made in the past are what shaped me into the person that I am today.  I wold not risk losing what I have built for myself today by the chances of changing one decision of yesterday.  It’s like we say ” you have already seen what you have, but don’t know what you will get?  That one different decision could change the course of everything and cause life to take a totally different path – a path that we may not necessarily be happier with.

So yes, there will be those what if moments but we learn to overcome them through our appreciation of the now.  And to be happy with all we have built and enjoy it.

Have you had any of those “what if” moments? Let us know in the comments section below.
