Sitting at church this morning listening to father Karam give his story of his calling was so inspirational it kept me thinking…
Are we listening to God’s call in our lives? So often we ask and pray for things we want or need but do we listen for when those prayers are being answered?
Whenever I speak about listening to God I always remember the line from the movie Evan Almighty when God (part acted by Morgan Freeman) speaks to the wife of Evan and says to her . . .
“ If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”
He is calling but are a listening?? Are we willing and able to fill in the gaps that exists within the church and in our society? Are we listening and willing and able to follow Christ’s path for us?
Father Karam hit the nail on the head this morning when he said “coming to church on a Sunday morning is the bare minimum as Christians. Putting a five or ten dollars may be a little above the minimum but it’s the bare minimum. God wants us to witness to the community and make it alive, and there is need to respond to the call of God”.
He went on to ask “why is it that many men don’t come to church?” His answer made me laugh – “because they are afraid they will be challenged.. that the word will speak to them and will encourage them to change and men don’t like a challenge they like to fight back” hahahaha
We should be willing to say “Lord here I am.. speak your servant is listening”. We should be ready to fill in the gaps and ready to make the change that is required of us everywhere we go.
God is calling and the response is “here I am Lord I am ready to do Your will”
Be blessed this day.
