Random Act of Kindness

Hi Lovies,

It has been a while I wanted to post something with the depth and thought-provoking nature that this post will have.  Being the kind of writer that I am, I always wait for that “something” to inspire and create that “thing” that allows for me to put pen to paper… or in this case fingers to keyboard.

My inspiration came today from a comment my cousin posted on Facebook.  She said:

“During cataclysmic global events, our collective consciousness synchronizes. Science can’t explain the phenomenon but religion does. It’s called prayer. ; a collective request sent up in unison, a shared hope, fear relieved, a life spared.

In times of tragedy, times of collective joy, in these brief moments, it is only the shared emotional experience that makes the world seem less random. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Or maybe it’s the answer to our prayers.”

You know, reading her post brought so many things to mind but mostly it made me remember the movie Evan Almighty.  That movie always refreshes my heart and mind to one of the most powerful messages that I have learnt so far.  It teaches us patience and love, but it also teaches us wisdom and understanding.

Acting as God, Morgan Freeman spoke to the wife of Evan Baxter, who had walked away from her husband because she was too embarrassed or ashamed to sit alongside him while he was following God’s command.  He said to her:

“Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does He give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does He give them opportunities to love each other?” The latter which she had herself prayed for, but failed to see the opportunity that was created to her.

In our everyday lives we always ask that God gives us signs in order to take a decision on one thing or the other, yet when the sign comes we so often miss it. Why? Because we look for the signs in the way that we want to see them and not in the way that He presents them.

So I ask you:

If someone prays that people would be more caring and kind does that just zap into existence? Or are situations presented which allow each of us to show kindness?   If one prays that there were more love in the world does God just give us the feeling?  Or does He give us opportunities to love each other? And if someone prays for world peace does it just happen overnight? Or do we need to take every opportunity to create that peace?

So we want to change the world right??? Let’s start with one act of random kindness at a time.  Kindness that comes from within ourselves and permeates to all whom we come in contact with.  We have to first begin with ourselves and create that spark from within that will allow us to light a fire in someone else.

A priest said once that “God works in different ways to bring people to Faith”.  I add that God works in different ways to bring people to love, faith and peace.

So what act of Kindness will you perform today???

Let’s keep the fire burning Lovies.  I leave you this song that I am sure most, if not all, of you will know from your childhood. I have a Dream

  1. This is so accurate and exactly what I have been trying to get at these past days! Nothing happens overnight, we have to constantly be at something in order to yield great results/success! Good read Jo
