My Island Dominica

I wrote this poem a few months ago and had included in my collection so that I could publish soon, but with all that has happened recently I felt it necessary to share it before publishing as a tribute to my beautiful island.  Tropical Storm Erika may have caused some damage but your shine and green still remain and coupled with the determination of your people you shall rise again…

To you Dominica!!

My Island Dominica

I close my eyes and the cold breeze kisses my face

Think I am in heaven and it feels like the right place

The raindrops caress my hands and my being they shiver

Oh what a feeling, might even quiver

I open my eyes and look all around

Amazed at such beauty that surrounds

The lush green pastures oh what a sight, can’t you see?

There is no other place I would want to be

We glide through her beauty and every inch we embrace

To God we say glory full of wonder, full of grace

The rain hits the roof top makes me want to get out and shout

How magnificent my Dominica and that’s no doubt

Her beauty captivates both mind and heart

True essence of the perfect escape right from the start

“Tall is her body” the Kalinago did say

So drop by for a while and live for today

My island Dominica, with you I remain

For no other can ever make me feel the same
